John Singleton has passed away today at the age of 51.
The award-winning director died Monday after his family decided to take him off of life support. Love B. Scott broke the news two weeks ago that Singleton was rushed to the hospital after suffering from a stroke. Since news broke, love and prayers from Hollywood and beyond have poured in.
Singleton became a household name for his prolific storytelling. His 1991 film, “Boyz N The Hood” is based on his own experiences growing up. Throughout his career, he has used his films to tell stories of the dynamics of life in inner-city hoods. Those films include “Poetic Justice”, “Baby Boy”, and “Higher Learning”.
He is survived by his mother, Shelia Ward, father, Danny Singleton, and his children, Justice, Maasai, Hadar, Cleopatra, Selenesol, Isis, and Seven.
Industry News Magazine sends our condolences to the friends and family of the iconic director during this time of grief.
