Outkast And The Neptunes Nominated For 2020 Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Duos The Neptunes and Outkast Have Been Nominated For 2020 Songwriters Hall Of Fame

The Neptunes and Outkast are the most recent nominees for the 2020 Songwriters Hall Of Fame. The Associated Press received the nomination list from The Songwriters Hall on Tuesday.

The way the induction works is, songwriters are eligible for induction after writing hit songs for at least 20 years. Six songwriters including groups will be inducted, and eligible members will be able to vote for three on-performing songwriters and three performing songwriters until December 16.

The Neptunes are a duo that consists of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. The duo has written for some of the most iconic artists such as Jay-Z, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Usher and more. Thanks to these artists, urban music had a smooth transition from the 90’s to the 2000’s. All of these artists hit the ground running around the same era, and have seen much success since then.

Outkast also received a nomination for the 2020 Songwriters class. Andre 3000 and Big Boi put a stamp in the music industry for southern artists. At the time, rappers from southern states did not receive a warm welcome. Many people didn’t like what the south brought to the music industry because of their style and accents. From getting booed by the crowd at the 1995 Source Awards, to being nominated for the Songwriters Hall Of Fame is a huge accomplishment.
