In honor of #internationaldayofthegirl, let’s give a shout to Issa Rae who recently partnered with Google Assistant. The comedian and actress is the second celebrity to lend her voice to the company, John Legend being the first. Her voice will be for specific replies only, while the standard Google Assistant voice will still be used for all other inquiries.
You’ve seen Issa in not one but two shows on HBO, ‘Insecure‘ and ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show ‘. She also announced that her team is in early development for the remake of the classic movie ‘Set It Off‘.
“I’m a black woman who gets to be the voice of Google Assistant. I just feel honored that they thought of me. It feels really cool to be a helpful voice, and represent a helpful voice for other people,” Issa told Essence Magazine.
Issa’s voice will be available for free in English on any US based Android, iOS, or smart speaker that Google Assistant has installed.
