Calling all the single ladies and men of the world!
Facebook Dating has been officially launched in the U.S. and this particular app allows those looking for love to connect through personal interest – opposed to a simple bio.
Users are prompted to create a profile, separate from your main profile page with friends. If you’re curious, the new system is so much different than Tinder’s swipe left or right. To express interest, a user would leave a comment on another profile or tap the “Like” button to signal that they’re interested in pursuing something. If theres no interest you do have an option to pass.
FBD doesn’t match you with people you’re currently following, but if you have eyes set on a specific individual, you may tap the Secret Crush button that allows you to discreetly show interest if feelings are mutual between the two of you and add each other to your list.
Safety and inclusivity is Facebook’s priority when it came to creating this dating site. You’re given the option to “report and block anyone; prohibiting people from sending photos, links, payments or videos in messages; and by providing easy access to safety tips.” For more information about their privacy and FBD click here. If you’re worried about how much information you’re sharing, you will have complete control sharing, gender identity, who you’re interested in, photos, events you’re interested in attending, live location, etc. and more.
According to Nathan Sharp, Product Manager for Facebook Dating (FBD), the app makes it easier to find love through common interest. By liking the same books, television shows or attending the same events happening near you, you’ll quickly match with those sharing similar interest. With this feature, it makes it easier to connect and converse about topics, if you were to go on that first date.
