Over the past few months, it’s been very quiet at the Top Dawg Entertainment camp. There has been many speculations as to why they have been keeping quiet. This year we began to notice that most of the artists haven’t really released music, SZA went on several rants on Twitter earlier this year, we haven’t heard anything from Kendrick Lamar, but now we may have the answer to all of this.
Dave Free, the president of Top Dawg Entertainment has recently parted his ways with the camp. Dave started this role in 2007 and is responsible for the successful careers of artists like SZA, ScHoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar. However, it is said that Free has been working independently for some months now, and specifically working with the artist Baby Keem that recently released an album this past July.
Over the past few years, he has created immaculate music videos with TDE like Jay Rock’s “WIN” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright”. Last year, free announced that he would like to get into film one day, and with the work he’s done with music videos, he’s very much qualified to do so.
Dave has not given a statement of what actually happened, nor has anyone from TDE. Their represnetation teams has declined to give a statement also.
